Australian mining magnate Gina Rinehart is chairwoman of Hancock Prospecting. The mining and mineral company was owned and foundered by her father, Lang Hancock. Gina inherited 76.6% of the company following her father’s passing, and, as such, is currently one of the world’s wealthiest people. She is one of the biggest names in the mining industry and is said to be developing an iron ore mine in Western Australia. She’s also quite the inspiration, once quoted as saying “If you want to help the next generation, make investment and business welcome.” Sage advice Gina.

Chilean billionaire Iris is another of the heavy hitters in the mining industry. She boasts a wealth of over $13 billion and runs the 7th largest copper mine in the world. She inherited Antofagasta PLC and became the richest person in Chile in the process. She also holds a minority stake in the country’s largest brewer CCU, and shipping company CSAV. Iris is also a well-known philanthropist and has been known to make a lot of donations to worthwhile causes. For instance, just a couple of years ago she donated over $4 million to the Chilean Telethon. She’s successful and has a heart of gold by the looks of it.

 

Priscilla Chan – $$14b

Many people aren’t familiar with Priscilla Chan, and you can be forgiven for not knowing her name. But, there’s no doubt you’ll know her hubby. She’s the wife of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. She’s no slouch, though and is a qualified paediatrician as well. Priscilla and Mark have been hugely involved in philanthropy since they got together. They formed the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, a company focused on health and education. English-born Kirsty is a former Miss UK, and currently, works as a songwriter. She is also married to Italian businessman Ernesto Bertarelli. The couple has amassed most of their fortune from pharmaceuticals. Kirsty has also heavily invested in luxury yachts, which has gone a long way to determining much of her wealth and success. She is estimated as being one of the richest women in the world, and among the top 5 richest women in the UK. Kirsty has written a fair few hit songs in her time, most notably the All Saints number one track ‘Black Coffee.’

American billionaire Elaine is one of the most impressive and powerful women on the planet. She is one of the richest women in the world, with a personal fortune of $16.4 billion! But, we can’t be jealous of her because she’s just too great! She is one of nine members on the board of Koch Industries. In fact, she actually also owns 15% of the multinational company. Koch Industries specialises in industries like energy, chemicals, natural gas, petroleum, and minerals. A consummate professional, Elaine shuns the public eye, preferring to focus on business matters.

Coming in at the $17 billion mark, Anne is one of the most successful women on this list. She has a large stake in the Cox Enterprises media conglomerate, and this has helped her amass her fortune. We bet you didn’t know that during the 1980s Anne was actually Director of The Coca-Cola Company as well! In addition to making waves in the business world, Anne is a supporter of several charities and causes. She is on the board of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Atlanta Historical Society, and Whitney Museum in New York.

 

Laurene Powell Jobs – $17.6b

After Steve Jobs sadly passed away, his wife Laurene has continued his great work. Inheriting much of her fortune from the Apple empire, As well as her shares in The Walt Disney Company, in which she holds a 7.3% stake. Despite her wealth, Laurene has managed to remain grounded. She is quoted as saying “Money is a tool for me, not a part of who I am.” She also founded the Emerson Collective, a company concerned with striving for political, educational, and environmental reforms. As if that wasn’t enough, she also co-founded organic food company Terravera! We love this woman!
